ABOUT

OUR HISTORY

Adopt An Art was founded by our founder and CEO, Alex Francke, in 2013 after her experiences at the Kentucky Center's Governor's School for the Arts (GSA). Alex felt a calling to bring arts education to elementary students in Central Kentucky after realizing the importance of arts education on children and their lives. What began as an idea soon became a nonprofit organization which then lead to after-school arts programs at Mary Todd Elementary.

CURRENT PROGRAMMING

After many years serving at Mary Todd Elementary, Adopt An Art took a turn in 2020. During a time of hardship, struggle, and unawareness of what was next for the arts, Alex approached Ashley Arnett, a now Senior Arts Administration student at the University of Kentucky to discuss next steps for Adopt An Art. With Ashley on board as Executive Director of Adopt An Art, the organization began to serve another nonprofit organization, Sunrise Children's Services Glendale Campus in Elizabethtown.

The 2020-2021 school year began a whole new partnership between the two organizations both with in-person and virtual art expression lessons with the help of our incredible volunteers.

This partnership left an impact on Adopt An Art, our staff, our volunteers, and most importantly, the young students of Sunrise Services. With the 2021-2022 school year in full swing, there will be a continuation of programming at Sunrise Services Glendale Campus.
